Change of Use

We are passionate about finding new uses for old buildings and we have extensive experience of this. We adopt a sensitive approach to alteration and upgrading work to enable a change of use and try to retain and reinstate original historic features wherever possible. New uses for historic buildings have included offices, retail units and residential. New uses for more modern buildings have included gyms and a church.

Forest Mead 01.jpg

This project comprised the adaptation and re-use of a barn and stable block in a rural village location to form residential accommodation with three bedrooms, together with the construction of an appropriately designed new extension to link the two parts of the building together. The general agricultural character and appearance of the range of buildings have been retained whilst also providing flexible open plan living space.

Home Farm Parham 01.jpg

This range of buildings comprised a traditional farmhouse with a large attached traditional barn, and a separate former agricultural building. We designed an appropriate scheme for the adaptation and re-use of the range of buildings to improve and enhance the accommodation within the farmhouse, to convert the adjacent barn into a spacious three bedroom residential property, and to create a further residential dwelling from the additional building.

Houghton Bunkhouse 01.jpg

This scheme comprised the sensitive re-use of a Grade II listed range of traditional agricultural buildings which were no longer suitable for modern methods of farming. Our brief was to form high quality bunkhouse accommodation, specifically targeted at users of the South Downs Way. We were delighted to receive an award from the Sussex Heritage Trust for our role in this project.

Whipley Manor Farm East Barn 01.jpg

East Barn comprises a large historic timber framed barn. The building was in very poor condition and some parts were close to collapse. We designed a scheme to secure the long term future of the building for commercial use, which included significant sympathetic repairs and alterations. The building is now successfully occupied by a wine retailer. We were delighted to receive a design award from Waverley Borough Council for our role in this project.
