Architecture & Design
We believe that good design has the power to make a positive impact on the environment in which people live and work. We aspire to understand, safeguard and improve buildings and their surroundings so, as well as helping the built environment to evolve to meet changing needs, we also leave them better than before. We are regularly entrusted with working on design proposals for historic buildings, special landscapes and in places of varied character throughout the South East of England.
Each project receives an entirely individual approach and we tailor our architectural design solutions according to the client’s requirements, place and context. We are equally comfortable working in both contemporary and traditional architectural styles, and projects range from small domestic extensions and alterations through to new-build housing schemes, commercial properties, conservation projects, community buildings and changes of use.
Residential - New Builds
New build residential developments that we have designed range from single dwellings through to multiple unit development schemes. We approach each project on an individual, bespoke basis and take great care to design creative schemes that are of an appropriate bulk, scale and appearance to suit their setting.We also aim to fulfill, and indeed to exceed, the client’s aspirations. We have designed houses for self-builders, developers and contractors.
Residential – Extensions & Alterations
Residential extensions, alterations, refurbishment and remodeling form a mainstay of our business and we have worked on numerous schemes ranging from minor alterations through to significant extensions. We work closely with each client to help realize the true potential of their brief whilst also being realistic about limitations. Schemes include forming additional space, better utilization of existing space, general updating and modernization, improving access and enhancing living conditions.
Commercial Buildings
We recognize the importance of creating practical, functional, comfortable, efficient and inspiring workplaces whilst also minimizing cost and maximizing productivity for business occupiers. We work to create commercial spaces that meet current needs and regulations whilst also providing flexibility for the future.
Farm & Estate Properties
We frequently work for several rural estates and farms across the South East helping our clients to achieve long term financial returns from their property assets. Projects include diversification schemes and the realization of potential from redundant buildings. Completed projects range from conversions of many barns to commercial and residential use, through to small extensions and refurbishments of cottages.
Change of Use
We are passionate about finding new uses for old buildings and we have extensive experience of this. We adopt a sensitive approach to alteration and upgrading work to enable a change of use and try to retain and reinstate original historic features wherever possible. New uses for historic buildings have included offices, retail units and residential. New uses for more modern buildings have included gyms and a church.
Community Buildings & the Care Sector
We have successfully delivered a variety of different community buildings, many of which have had particular site constraints and challenges. Design solutions have provided cost effective, robust and functional buildings whilst ensuring a pleasurable experience for the users of each building through the use of interesting and innovative design features.
Heritage Buildings
We have extensive experience of working on listed and historic buildings and have a detailed understanding of the special approach that is required when working on these properties in order to conserve their special historic character. We understand the need to use appropriate and sensitive methods and materials, and the damage that can be caused by an uninformed approach. We strongly believe in carrying out detailed research to fully understand the history and significance of a property before preparing detailed proposals.
Coastal Projects
Not surprisingly, due to our location, we have been asked to design several projects that are located on, or very close to, the coast. These projects include refurbishments and extensions on domestic properties, the design of modern beach huts, repairs to a bandstand and even refurbishment of public toilet blocks. Designing projects that are located close to the coast requires particular attention to detailing and specification to reduce the risk of water penetration, flooding, wind-driven water penetration and corrosion. Our experiences on projects of this nature help us to provide specialist design advice on similar projects.
